Originally from Dunedin and following a career as a fashion buyer and consultant, my journey as an artist began following a fashion design drawing course and life drawing course. The structure and confines of the art courses inspired the exact opposite; the creation of abstract compositions and a flare for creation with no boundaries. I love the depth achieved from the layering process and the surprises that arise from the first layer to the last. This can prove to be a battle at times, but to see the surprising way the works come together, in the end, is and always remains an important part of the process. My Artwork is inspired by the world around me and other artists for example Modigliani, Giacometti and Postwar abstraction artists including Perle Fines, Lee Krasner and Grace Hartigan.

Spanning over 20 years, I now work from my Art studio in Auckland. Here I create abstract expressionist works which incorporate different mediums to create these rather chaotic and unique works. I adopt the use of an assemblage of materials; building paper ripped paper, fabric, wire, discarded tissue and previous artworks. These are secured by adding gesso, acrylic paint and oil. To create the desired texture I sometimes sand and scrape the back of the works to merge and soften the base. Fashion although an inspiration has evolved and incorporates life experience, mood, music and gestures, which is a catalyst for my artworks.

Exhibiting artworks at both the Cleveland Art Gallery and the Roslyn Art Gallery in Dunedin, I was also lucky enough to have one of my works selected to be part of a contemporary art competition at Lopdell House Gallery in Titirangi, Auckland. My artworks have been displayed at the Morgan Art Gallery in Auckland and I have been a past winner of the ANZ Open Contemporary Art Award in Suva, Fiji, where I lived with my family for a number of years. This was an experience that has greatly influenced the direction of my Art, particularly with colour and the use of unorthodox mediums.

For a number of years, I exhibited and worked from my studio on Mt Eden Rd. Recently moving to my home studio / Garage during our first lockdown last year. My last exhibition was at taylor Newmarket which was wonderful a coming together of fashion, art, friends, family, wine, food and song.
